The Ugly® Hybrid 2
Longboard NoseRider
Hand Crafted in the USA
If you like to do a lot of turns from the nose, the “2” is for you. The Hybrid 2 is a high performance two and three stepper. It’s highly responsive in the turns, snappier off cutbacks, and turns easier from the nose.
It’s lighter because it’s thinner. The rails are turned to create lift along the hips and tail to make it ride higher on the surface, for less resistance too. The Ugly Hybrid 2’s nose is still wide but is also pointed, which allows for enhanced directional flow with greater ease of turning from the nose while in the pocket.
The Ugly Hybrid 2 incorporates all new technology in its construction. We use state of the art composite materials to keep it light and durable.
The Ugly Hybrid 2 is stable from front-to-back and side-to-side. Whether you’re a beginner and starting to walk, or ready to take on the challenges of noseriding, the Hybrid 2 will make it easy for you to stand up and walk to the nose, and give you the thrill of dangling your ten toes over the nose.

The Ugly® Hybrid
Longboard NoseRider
Hand Crafted in the USA
The Ugly Hybrid is the contemporary version of The Ugly made in 1966. The “Hybrid” incorporates all the latest technology in its construction, from state of the art composite materials to keep it light and durable, to new elemental shapes that make it float better, turn easier and enhance stability throughout.
The Hybrid has all the basic features of The Ugly shape but now its lighter and faster. The rails are turned to create lift along the hips and tail, so it’s more responsive in the turns, and snappier off cutbacks. Of course The Ugly nose and tail shapes still heighten those long nose rides that The Ugly is known for, without any compromise for improved turn-ability.
Whether you’re ready to take on the challenges of noseriding or a beginner just starting to walk the length, the Hybrid will make it easy for you to get up there onto the nose and give you the thrill of being out front. Plus, it’ll age well.

The Ugly® 1966 Special Edition
The Special Edition is a Classic Longboard NoseRider
Hand Crafted in the USA
The Ugly 1966 Special Edition was introduced for those who wish to own an original.
November 1966, Bob Purvey introduces The Ugly prototype (not named yet) by riding it in the Morey-Pope Pro (noseriding division) Invitational, the most talked about contest of the year.
Bob proved The Ugly’s extraordinary ability by winning the noseriding contest with the longest noserides, and the legend begins. It would later be called the The Ugly and over time it gained recognition throughout the surfing world as the “Ultimate Noserider.”
The Ugly grabbed the world’s attention with its unique, unconventional, wide, blunt nose shape and that’s why it got its name, The Ugly. The shape became the standerd bear for noserider designs. Check out Legend of The Ugly for the complete story.
By 1967, the art form of noseriding was at its peak, and The Ugly noserider sales topped the charts, world wide.
Since the 1960’s The Ugly has become widely recognized as the standard bearer for noserider type surfboard designs; wide nose, big concave underneath it and a kicked up tail, put together with fine technical skill.
Today, the Ugly 1966 Special Edition (SE) Bob Purvey Design is built based on the original specifications. It comes numbered with a certificate of authenticity signed by Bob Purvey.
The Ugly SE features a foam wedge stringer to widen the nose, a deep concave one-third of the board’s overall length to make the nose float higher, a kicked up tail for hold, soft 50/50 rails, high-density nose and tail blocks, box or glassed on fin, volan glass for durability, and a high gloss polished finish. Plus, it ages well.
$2,300 (MSRP) 9′ to 10′ 6″
$2,400 (MSRP) 10′ 7″ to 11′
