Welcome, Mark Brög – Shaper and owner of Brög Surf and Skate Soul Performance shop and factory in Gardena, California.

Mark grew up in the South Bay, where his family, friends, new shop, and factory reside.

At age 14, Brög started surfing locally at Torrance Beach, where he rode the sand-bottom peak breaks with challenging lefts and rights.  Surfing quickly became his passion.  Like most kids his age, he was an avid skateboarder, but being a natural waterman, he yearned to ride the waves.  He soon discovered that it was easy to translate his skateboard repertoire into surfing maneuvers.

Frequently after school, he would visit the ET Surfboard’s factory in the neighborhood, where he studied shaping and glassing with his newfound friends.  Eventually, he purchased a blank and shaped his first surfboard.

Once freed from his parent’s home domain and becoming a surfboard maker, he started traveling to explore the surfing world and further develop his board-making skills. Some of his most memorable adventures took him to Mauritius, Senegal, and South Africa, where he spent time working in Jeffrey’s Bay teaching young wannabe surfboard makers the fine art of shaping, glassing, and sanding. He became the Shaper for Aloha Designs in Durban and was invited to shape for Ocean Safari in France.  Like a sponge, he soaked up everything he could.  He now speaks German and French fluently.

Mark’s passion for crafting boards enabled him to nurture his skills to shape all kinds of boards, from a variety of surfboards to snowboards, kitesurfing boards, and of course, skateboards. He has also developed the delicate art of airbrushing and colorwork skills with attention to detail, setting a new high-quality standard.

Friends and family, including his grown-up son and daughter, continue to live in the South Bay, where he recently completed his dream of building an eco-friendly surf and skate design and repair shop in Gardena.

His full-service shop is stocked with a variety of boards, including demos.  He promotes the importance of sustainability with knowledge about the impact of climate change on the ocean and environment and principles to live by.
